Description
The digitization and documentation of the archives of the Council for the Historical Memory of EOKA 1955-1959 was done at the digitization laboratory of the University of Cyprus Library. The collection consists of 2.140 photographs, 28 printed publications, 530 audio tapes and 75 videotapes whose main subject is the struggle of EOKA (National Organization of Cypriot Fighters) which was active during the period 1955-59 and is a landmark in the recent history of Cyprus. EOKA , whose members were Greek-Cypriots, aimed by means of guerrilla warfare to rid the island of British rule (1878-1960) and unite Cyprus with Greece. The project aims primarily to the preservation of the archival material, as well as to provide access to it to the general public.
