Description
Skemman is the online institutional repository for The Agricultural University of Iceland, The Iceland Academy of the Arts, The National and University Library, The University of Akureyri, The University of Bifröst, The University of Iceland and The University of Reykjavik. It houses students' digital theses and dissertations as well as articles and other research material from the universities' academic staff. Skemman was originally a cooperative project of The University of Akureyri and The Teachers' Training College (now The School of Education at the University of Iceland). It was housed and run by The Teachers' Training College from 2006 until 2009. In Spring 2008 it was decided that Skemman should be moved to The National and University Library. In February the same year The University of Iceland's Council had voted to authorize the archiving and preservation of students' theses in digital format. The Agricultural University of Iceland, The Iceland Academy of the Arts and The University of Bifröst became participants at approximately the same time as The University of Iceland. The University of Reykjavik has been a participant since September 2010. The National and University Library supports a policy of open access to research made possible by public funding.
