ESTUDO GERAL is the name of the University of Coimbra (UC) open access digital repository of scientific literature. Its purpose is to give access to digital contents of the scientific texts produced by authors related to the UC, following the principles of the Open Access to Scientific Literature Movement , subscribed in 2006 by the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities. In this context, it was recommended the creation of institutional repositories, and the adoption of a policy for institutional deposit of scientific and academic publications. UC endorsed these principles in early 2007 and, like other major national and international universities, is committed to disseminating the fruits of its research as widely as possible.
